Big Bang Data

Buenos Aires / Espacio Fundación Telefónica de Buenos Aires

With more than 115,000 visitors after passing the CCCB and Foundation Telefonica Madrid, this second of July the exhibition Big Bang Data is presenting in Espacio Fundación Telefónica of Buenos Aires.

We all generate data from our mobile phones, through sensors, social networks, digital photos and videos, records of purchasing transactions as well as GPS signals. The novelty lies in that it is getting every time easier to store and process this vast amount of data and detect patterns (of incidents, behavior, consumerism, voting, investment, etc.).

Big Bang Data is a project that explores the phenomenon of data explosion in which we are immersed. Since five years, there is a broad awareness among academics, scientists, governments, the business and cultural sector, that generate, process and above all, interpret data with new developed technologies and that can radically change our society.

The exhibition is co-produced by the Foundation Telefónica and the CCCB and is curated by Olga Subirós and José Luis de Vicente. In this adaptation in the space of the Foundation Telefónica in Buenos Aires, artists like Timo ArnallAaron KoblinIngo GhunterBrendan Dawes and Erik Kessels will be involved.

Plus, London-based designer, creator and researcher Timo Arnall has created a surprising installation specially for the exhibition, showing us the more architectural and material aspects of data centres, large-scale infrastructures that store millions and millions of data. Take a virtual visit to this installation by watching this film of just over a minute.
