Faced with an uncertain and hostile world, the CCCB has placed a focus on words as one of the cornerstones of its future programme. When borders are closed and the idea of a future unravels, the CCCB works on translation, building bridges and multilingualism as a way of projecting itself to the world. Barcelona and Catalonia are a society with many strengths in the sphere of literature and publishing. The CCCB must reflect this leadership and tradition and show it to the world. 

The vindication of words is a means of encouraging critical thought and imagination. Of defending freedom of expression as the principle that underpins democracy, and fiction as a tool for envisaging other possible worlds. The CCCB must offer an arena for rigorous, experimental debate that helps to strengthen democracy through the free exchange of ideas, people and disciplines.
