Zakes Mda
Writer, painter, film maker and teacher of Literature, Narrative and Rhetoric at the University of Ohio.
He has specialised in the study of African literature, particularly African theatre. He has worked with Radiotelevision of Lesotho and with SABC on different documentaries and television series. He directs the film company Thapama Productions in Johannesburg. He has taken part in numerous theatre workshops in cities around the world, including Barcelona. He is founder and director of a programme to help AIDS patients, Southern African Multimedia AIDS. He has been advisor on issues of social mobilization for UNICEF and collaborator on development programmes for the government of Lesotho. His plays have been performed at various theatres around Europe, Africa and North America. He has exhibited his paintings at different art galleries in the USA and the United Kingdom.
