Xavier Rubert de Ventós

Philosopher and politician

(Barcelona, 1939-2023)

Philosopher, university lecturer, writer and politician. Professor of aesthetics at the Barcelona School of Architecture. Member of the Spanish Parliament between 1982 and 1986, and of the European Parliament between 1986 and 1994.

Author of an extensive oeuvre on aesthetic, philosophical and political themes, his titles include El arte ensimismado (1963), Teoría de la sensibilidad (1968), Moral y nueva cultura (1971), La estética y sus herejías (1980), El Laberinto de la Hispanidad (1987), El cortesà i el seu fantasma (1991), El cortesano y super fantasma (1993), Filosofia d'estar per casa (2004), Demonios íntimos (2012), La batalla del amor contra el deseo (2014), among others.

He was awarded the Lletra d'Or Prize for Catalan literature (1963), the Anagrama Essay Prize (1973), the Espejo de España Prize (1987), the Josep Pla Prize for narrative (1991), the Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1999) and the Francesc Macià Memorial Prize (2011).
