Valentina Alvarado Matos

Valentina Alvarado Matos (1986, Venezuela) is an artist whose practice focuses on the moving image, traversed by a gaze that reflects on diaspora, landscape, and gesture. Her work has been exhibited at Queer Circle London, V & A Museum, Artium, LIAF Biennial, DocsKingdom, Pesaro Film Festival, Viennale, International Film Festival Rotterdam, L'Alternativa, Oberhausen, Festival Punto de Vista, Ambulante, XCentric, SFCinematheque, S8 Mostra de Cine Periférico, Loop Festival, Cinemateca de Madrid, Filmoteca de Cataluña, Microscope Gallery, Los Angeles Forum - 2220 Arts, Conde Duque Madrid, Salzburger Kunstverein, Fabra i Coats and Arts Santa Mònica, among others.
She has been artist-in-residence at Hangar, La Escocesa, Cultura Resident Castellón, Fora de Camp, LIFT Toronto, Dirdira Lab/Azala, and Matadero Madrid.
At the beginning of 2024, she inaugurates in Barcelona, together with Carlos Vásquez Méndez, el otro aquí, a solo show at La Capella, and totalmente rostro at La Virreina Image Center, curated by David Armengol.

She combines his artistic practice with teaching, giving classes and workshops at institutions such as BAU, Cinema en curs, Massana, Master LAV, EINA, Can Felipa Arts Visuals, CC Albareda, the University of Zulia, the University of Barcelona, Cinema en Curs, BAU, and EICTV in San Antonio de Los Baños in Cuba.
Some of her films are part of the catalog of the distribution company Light Cone, Archivo XCèntric, and HAMACA.
Her work has been included in the book Remains-Tomorrow: Themes in Contemporary Latin American Abstraction by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill.

In 2025 she will be an artist-in-residence at VSW Rochester, NY. She will participate in the group show Transgresoras: Mail Art and Messages, the 1960s-2020s, curated by Zanna Gilbert at the California Museum of Photography, along with artists such as Cecilia Vicuña, Liliana Porter, Anna Bella Geiger, Carolina Caycedo, and Rivane Neuenschwander, among others.
