Thomas Pogge
Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University.
(Hamburg, 1953) is Professor (Adjunct) at Yale Law School and the Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs, also at Yale.
He holds a PhD in Philosophy and International Affairs from the University of Harvard (1983), is Research Director of the Centre for the Study of the Mind in Nature (CSMN) at the University of Oslo, and teaches at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the Australian National University. He has also taught Philosophy and Political Science at Columbia University.
He has written extensively in the domain of political philosophy and his theses on world poverty and global justice are ground-breaking in the field. Continuing along similar lines of research, he is presently director of two international programmes on guaranteeing access to essential medicines and evaluating the extent of female poverty in the world.
His most recent publications include Politics as Usual (Polity 2010); Kant, Rawls and Global Justice (Shanghai Translation Press 2010) and, in Spanish, Hacer Justicia a la Humanidad (Doing Justice to Humanity – FCE, 2009) and La pobreza en el mundo y los derechos humanos (Paidós, 2005), the latter of which appeared in English as World Poverty and Human Rights (Polity, 2002).
