Siegfried Zielinski

Media theoretician and rector of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.

Siegfried Zielinski (1951), rector of the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, is one of the founders of Media Archaeology, a discipline studying the interaction between present-day mass media and earlier communicative expressions arising from art and philosophy. He has written and edited several books, among them Allah’s Automata, co-edited with Peter Weibel, in which they analyse the influence of medieval Arab mechanics in contemporary computer engineering. He is presently director of the International Vilém-Flusser-Archive at the Berlin University of the Arts where he also teaches Media Theory.
