Sergi Valverde

Researcher at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, established by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), where he is head of the Evolution of Technology Lab. With a degree in Computer Engineering and a PhD in Physics from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), he is a lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering degree course at the UPF, and a fellow of the European Centre for Living Technology (ECLT) at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. His work in the field of evolution of technology is concerned with understanding and explaining the origins of innovation and evolution of technological systems, especially information networks and software. Moreover, he researches into the evolution of complex networks, both natural and artificial, and the creative capacity of artificial intelligence.
