Rember Yahuarcani López

Artist and indigenous activist

Rember Yahuarcani is a visual artist, curator and activist for the rights and respect of cosmologies and indigenous knowledge. His work picks up and addresses the myths and memories of the White Heron Clan, of the Uitoto indigenous nation.

Since 2003 he has had solo and group shows at museums and art galleries in Latin and North America, Europe and Asia. He is the winner of the 1st Carlota Carvallo de Núñez National Children’s and Youth Literature Competition (Lima, Peru) and the 2nd Intercontinental Biennial of Indigenous Art (Quito, Ecuador), among others. He has published the books Fídoma y el bosque de estrellas (Arsam, 2013), El sueño de Buinaima (AECID, 2015), Las aves y sus colores (Déjalo Ser, 2015) and El verano y la lluvia (Casa de la Literatura, 2017). He also writes articles about contemporary indigenous art for journals and newspapers.

He is one of the artists taking part in the 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia 2024, with the title and theme of Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, curated by Adriano Pedrosa
