Rami Elhanan

Peace activist

Rami Elhanan is an Israeli graphic designer and also an activist recognized for his struggle for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Following the murder of his daughter Smadar by Palestinian suicide attacks in 1997, Elhanan joined The Parents Circle - Families Forum (PCFF), an organization of Palestinian and Israeli families who have lost family members to the conflict, which advocates that reconciliation is a prerequisite for peace. Elhanan also became a member of Combatants for Peace, an organization composed of Israeli and Palestinian ex-combatants committed to nonviolent action against the Israeli occupation. Through his activism she met Bassam Aramin, a Palestinian activist whose daughter was also killed by Israeli police. Since then, Elhanan and Aramin speak at meetings, conferences and interviews as a team. Their friendship, personal history and joint activism have made them the protagonists of the novel Apeirogon (Published in Catalan by L'Altra and in Spanish by Seix Barral, 2021) by writer Colum McCann.
