Oscar Powell is the man of the moment. A hooligan you can’t help but love because his continuous sabotage of the rules of the game is done with a fantastically freaky sense of humour whilst being incredibly arty. Some of his greatest achievements include getting the famous producer Steve Albini -an out and out hater of electronic music- to “collaborate” on one of his songs, and the outsider Russell Haswell -one of the totems of British experimental music- to agree to publish an album on his label Diagonal in exchange for a drum machine; a recording which ended up being remixed by the elusive DJ Stingray and the very Autechre themselves. Special mention is deserved for having the courage to name one of his recordings “Sylvester Stallone” (XL Recordings, 2015) to which he also dedicated an utterly insane video clip. Powell will arrive at Lapsus with his new live abstract techno show; raw, muscular, and packed with unreleased material. Don’t miss it.
