Pere Sala i Martí

Environmentalist and director of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia

With a degree in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Catalonia (UAC), he is currently director of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, after having been its coordinator from 2005 until 2017. He works in the areas of integrating landscape into public policies, implementation of landscape policies in Europe, the relationship between landscape and development, and study of emergent landscapes.

Advisor to the Council of Europe and secretary general of CIVILSCAPE, he is Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and teaches in other undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

He has edited catalogues on landscape in Catalonia and is author or editor of several publications on landscape and sustainable development, notable amongst which are Lo sublime contemporáneo. Paisajes de la perplejidad (The Contemporary Sublime: Landscapes of Perplexity, 2018), La planificació del paisatge en l’àmbit local a Europa(Local Landscape Planning in Europe, 2015), and Challenges of the Implementation by the European Region of the Directive on Strategic Environmental Assessment (2001).
