Paul Auster

Paul Auster (1947-2024) was an American novelist, poet, screenwriter, and filmmaker with international recognition. He was born in New Jersey and studied literature at Columbia University. He spent three years in France, where he worked, among others, as a translator, and in 1974 he settled in Brooklyn. He received numerous awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature (2006). His notable works include The New York Trilogy (1987), Moon Palace (1989), Leviathan (1992), The Book of Illusions (2002), The Brooklyn Follies (2005), Winter Journal (2012), 4 3 2 1 (2017), and Baumgartner (2023), and the screenplays for Smoke & Blue in the Face (1995) and Lulu on the Bridge (1998). His books have been translated into more than 40 languages.
