Miguel Chillón

ICREA research professor at the Institut de Neurociències at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).

In 1994 he obtained a PhD in Genetics from the University of Barcelona, and the Spanish Genetics Society awarded his research its National Prize for Genetics. In postdoctoral research visits to the United States and France, he specialised in viral vectors, which is to say viruses used to deliver information in gene therapy. Since 2001 he has been an ICREA researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where he heads the Viral Vector Production Unit (UPV) at the Centre for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG) at the UAB. He has also established two spin-off companies (NanoTherapix SL and Kogenix Therapeutics Inc.) which work on treatments for human diseases and gene therapies with a view to making the therapeutic product more available to the clinic and the market.
