Mercè Oliva

(Alguaire, 1980), who has a PhD in Social Communication, is Associate Professor and Serra Húnter Fellow in Media Studies and Popular Culture in the Department of Communication of the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. She is director of the BA programme in Audiovisual Communication, coordinator of the UNIC Research Group, and a member of the MEDIUM Research Group. Her area of research covers the intersection of celebrity, the gender perspective, inequalities, and new digital narratives. She author of the book Telerrealidad, disciplina e identidad. Los makeover shows en España (TV Reality, Discipline, and Identity: Makeover Shows in Spain), co-editor of Espejos rotos: Narrativas distópicas y sociedad de entrecrisis (Broken Mirrors: Dystopian Narratives and Inter-Crisis Society), and co-author with Jordi Balló of the essay La imatge incessant (The Incessant Image).
