Max Mix

Megamix is the great hidden story of Spanish, Catalan and most especially Barcelona popular music. A tale of intrigue, contract killers, betrayal, millions in sales and a musical pioneering spirit that parallels our country’s history of democracy, from consumerist mayhem to absurd humour and crisis. In the early eighties, the Catalan capital saw the birth of a DIY style of music collage that was to change dance music in Spain forever and join the Guinness World Records for sales (even beating Julio Iglesias). Its three foremost blades will be offering a joint theatrical show to mark 40 years of the phenomenon. Taking part: Josep Maria Castells (Barcelona, 1965), who has sold 32 million copies of his discs, disco entrepreneur, the brain behind Megamix and godfather of mega sales like King Africa; Toni Peret (Barcelona, 1964), the inseparable partner of Castells’s years of success and maker of over 150 discs of mixes and renowned radio voice, and Mike Platinas (Barcelona, 1963), the father of Megamix, artisan and mad doctor, runner-up in two world DJ championships and, like his two buddies, a character in a novel that is rarely talked about.
