Markha Valenta

Member of the History Department, University of Amsterdam.

Markha Valenta is an interdisciplinary researcher at the University of Amsterdam. She is presently engaged in the project of studying and comparing the relations between democracy and ethno-religious diversity in three cities: Amsterdam, New York and Mumbai. In another project she is analysing the encounters of Western European nation-states with Muslim populations, with particular emphasis on The Netherlands and the United States. She also works for the (Dutch) Scientific Council for Government Policy, where she studies relations between states and religion.
