Maria Magdalena Garzon Torrandell

Pedagogue and creator in dance

Dedicated to contemporary dance for over 17 years. She is trained in several schools in Mallorca, Catalonia and Berlin and attends courses with internationally recognized professionals (Julyen Hamilton, Lisa Nelson, Josef Nadj, Cia. Mal Pelo). Her practice and self-interest are focused on Body Weather training, learning with Constanza Brncic, Andrés Corchero and Elias Cohen, and the technique of instant improvisation and composition. However, her creative work is developed in contact with artists from various disciplines (music, theater and visual arts) and in participating in research and body work processes.

Since 2011 she has been refining his choreographic interest in the relationship between music and dance, creating the pieces Astres Mínims, Hitzak, matáforas cachées, Saïdia, Verónica, Altarpiece in two parts and In the name of Bach. As a performer she has worked with Xavi Bobés, Lipi Hernández, Cecilia Molano and Andrés Corchero, among others.

She currently lives in Barcelona where she is pursuing a Higher Degree in Performance and Choreography at the Institut del Teatre. She combines her work as a dance pedagogue with her work as a dancer and creator, as well as being interested in body work and expression in various contexts and social groups, proposing a performance from projects in the socio-educational field. The latest projects have been the organization of movement laboratories at the Penitentiary Center of Palma and the project "Eyes in the hands", which aims to develop a dance pedagogy for people with visual diversity. In 2017 he received a scholarship from the Observatory of Applied Performing Arts of the Institut del Teatre for the creation of the dance piece Mirall in a Mirror in the field of visual diversity.
