Marcel·lí Antúnez

Creator and performer

Marcel·lí Antúnez is internationally recognized as one of the leading figures in electronic art and stage experimentation, and has developed a personal iconoclastic visual world based on reflection on artistic production systems, with its own iconography. He has created installations and performances for venues in over 35 countries, including the Musée Européen de la Photographie (Ville de Paris), the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London), DAF (Tokyo), MACBA (Barcelona) and ZBD (Lisbon). His work includes mechatronic performances, sometimes with robots, and interactive installations and collaborations with collectives including La Fura dels Baus, which he set up in the eighties.

He has received the following prizes and distinctions, among others: First Prize in the L’Étrange Festival (Paris, 1994), Nouveaux Cinéma Nouveaux Médias (Montreal, 1999), Premio Max Award 2001, Premi FAD (Barcelona, 2001), Honourable Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2003 and the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona 2004. Since 2010 he has been working on the project Arsenale della Apparizioni, creating three pieces: a performance (Cotrone, 2010), a film (El Peix Sebastiano, 2011) premiered at the Sitges Film Festival, and an interactive performance (Pseudo, 2012), premiered at the Grec de Barcelona. In 2014 he presented the exhibition Systematurgy. Actions, Devices and Drawings at Arts Santa Mònica de Barcelona to present his particular method of creation based on this neologism, systematurgy, understood as a dramaturgy of computational systems.
