Mara Mattuschka

Experimental filmmaker

At age 17 she chose Austria as her second home. Currently, she is one of the most important figures in European experimental cinema. The most outstanding aspect of her films, as well as her latest video productions (Id, Plasma), is the way she relates to her own body. Mattuschka is not the only protagonist before the camera in her (video) films, since her body also functions as if it were a canvas, object and subject that is painted, extended, trimmed, deformed with special effects, etc. The other point of reference of her work is a continuous and powerful analysis of experimental Hollywood film productions of past and present, with an intense search for both sound and music.
