Maixabel Lasa

Activist

She is an activist for coexistence in the Basque Country. For more than ten years she was the director of the Office of Attention to Victims of Terrorism of the Basque Government (2001-2012). She is the widow of Juan Maria Jáuregui, a Basque politician assassinated by ETA in 2000. Maixabel Lasa was one of the first victims who agreed to meet with two of her husband's murderers. She has always advocated dialogue and forgiveness as a form of activism. In 2021 the film director Icíar Bollaín has transferred this story to the big screen with the film Maixabel.
