Lucas Barrero

A student of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Girona, he is finalising his end-of-course project in which he is researching into greenhouse gas emissions in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic, and their implications for the eco-social crisis. In the last year, his concerns about the climate and environmental disaster led him to found, together with friends and fellow university students, the Spanish branch of Fridays for Future. He has published the essay El mundo que nos dejáis (Ediciones Destino, 2019) in which he argues that society should engage in discussion about the environment and, in a critical, transversal, and bottom-up way, be at the forefront of the ecological transition which we will be facing in the coming years.
