Lourdes Villagómez

Lourdes Villagómez studied Communication Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City and has a master’s degree in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. She directs and produces animation that combines images from everyday life and objects using different animation techniques in film, video and installation; her work has been screened at over 50 festivals and shown at venues such as the Museo Nacional de Arte, Mexico City, and various spaces in Los Angeles and Milan. In 1999, she set up Los Animantes, a collective for the production and promotion of independent animation film. She has received grants from the Fulbright, Rockefeller and MacArthur Foundations, and currently belongs to the National System of Art Creators of CONACULTA-Mexico, working on the project Greatest Hits, a series of shorts using different techniques that copy the production and distribution strategies of independent bands. She lives and works in Mexico and Madrid.
