Len Lye

Painter, sculptor and filmmaker (experimental animation)

Christchurch (New Zealand), 1901 - New York (United States), 1980

He is an artist who eschews categorisation within the avant-garde of the beginning of the last century, although he participated in it with his work. Painting, kinetic sculptures and animated films were the formats Len Lye chose to capture the essence of movement. Lye was one of the greatest exponents of experimental animation of the first half of the twentieth century: his animated films are an excellent combination of sounds and abstract forms.
