Klaus Wyborny

Klaus Wyborny, born 1945. Makes films since 1968, which were presented on Documentas 5 und 6 and on numerous international filmfestivals - e.g. Demonic Screen (1969), Die Geburt der Nation / The Birth of a Nation (1973), Pictures of the Lost Word (1975), The Scenic Sacrifice (Preis der deutschen Filmkritik 1980), The Open Universe (1991), Sulla (Grand Prix of the Filmfestival Split 2002), Studies for the Decay of the West (2010). His films are collected in museums like the Museum of Modern Art New York, the German Filmmuseum Frankfurt, the Filmmuseum München, Siftung Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin or the Hamburger Kunsthalle.

Since 1974 he taught filmhistory and the theory of filmediting on numerous universities, art and filmschools. Since 2009 he is a professor at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. In 2013 he received the Prix Walter Benjamin in France. The legendary British filmcritic Tony Rayns praises Wyborny’s film Die Geburt der Nation / The Birth of a Nation as one of the best 10 films ever made (Sight and Sound filmpoll 2012).
