Juan de Diego

Juan de Diego (Bilbao, 1968) is a trumpet player and teacher of jazz trumpet and instrumental ensemble at the Taller de Músics, the school where he completed his musical training, and the municipal school of Sant Andreu de la Barca. Until 2008 he also taught at the Pablo Sarasate Conservatory in Pamplona.

He currently leads the jazz grove quartet TRAKAS, a band with which he has just released a new album “Erbestea” (Errabal 2012) and together with his brother, saxophonist Victor de Diego, he is one of the five members of the group DeDiego Brothers, with two albums under its belt and whose music has reminiscences of 1960s jazz (Blue Note), fusing jazz with funk or boogaloo.

He is also a member of Periferians, a trio together with José Alberto Medina and Dani Domínguez and of Alfons Carrascosa’s Big Acoustic band (BAb) with which he has released two discographic works. He has also formed part of groups such as Asociación Libre Orkesta, Brassass Company, Barcelona Big Latin Band, 666, Bandaéria de Xavi Maristany, Barcelona Jazz Orquesta, Lucrecia, Groove Station, as well as collaborating with numerous other groups such as Eladio Reinón Supercombo, Big Band de Bellaterra, Big Band Taller de Músics, Segundo Cónclave, etc.

He has worked together with musicians of the stature of Benny Golson, Nicholas Payton, Jesse Davis, Frank Wess, Dick Oatts, Carl Allen, Wendell Bronious, Eric Reed, Dennis Rowland, Sean Leavitt, General Alcazar, Perico Sambeat, Ben Wolfe, Melva Houston, Jeff Ballard, Armando Manzanero, Olga Guillot, Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet), Ruper Ordorika, and Guillermo Klein.

He also collaborates with the contemporary dance company L'anònima Imperial, joining its members on various tours around Europe, and has performed on soundtrack recordings and at numerous international jazz festivals.
