Jaime Refoyo

Geographer of Thought

He studies the evidence of a geometric language coming from the trace our body leaves on the ground when it establishes a relationship with other bodies or spaces through the movement natural or inherent to the design of every human body. This study, which he has called the "Geography of Thought", reveals that our body uses signs from a very precise geometric language that identifies us with the spatial architecture of our environment. A language that aligns our behaviour with space to make us participants in a relationship of mutual affectation. The trace of the pencil on the paper shows us lines of direction as complex as a perfect straight line or a perfect circumference. But also very precise geometric elements coming from the relationship between the different lines: tangencies, intersections of three or more lines at a single point... Signs of a language that question our way of thinking about reality. Because what is really new about this language is not only what it shows. It is how it has been executed and what has made it possible. Jaime Refoyo develops his investigation through film, performance and exhibition. He has held exhibitions and performances, and given workshops at Caixafórum, Blueproject Foundation, Mercat de les Flors, Filmoteca de Catalunya and Azkuna Zentroa. He has also given numerous talks at universities such as Barcelona, Aberdeen and Manchester. And at conferences of the European Association of Social Anthropologists and the Association of Social Anthropologists of the United Kingdom. Currently, after making two short films produced by Luís Miñarro-Eddie Saeta and a feature film co-produced with Pere Portabella-Films59, he is working on his second feature film Before Thinking.'.
