Isabelle Vernós

ICREA Research Professor at the Centre for Genomic Regulation of Barcelona

With a PhD in Biochemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she completed her postdoctoral studies at the University of Cambridge. From 1992 to 2005 she continued her research career at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Since 2005 she has been an ICREA Research Professor at the Centre for Genomic Regulation of Barcelona where she heads the Function of Microtubules and Cell Division research group. The same year she became a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization. In 2012 she was elected as a member of the newly created Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation for the Secretary of State for R&D&I, an institution comprised by scientists and social agents which assesses policies of scientific innovation and development. She is the only woman on the Council. Since 2014 she has been a member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council, which encourages high-quality research in Europe through competitive funding.
