Ioannis Pappas

Ioannis Pappas is a sustainability advisor of the Municipality of Heraklion. With a background in mechanical engineering, he has a PhD in Applied Mechanics, and is founder of Green Evolution. His area of work includes services related with sustainability and climate change in tourism, energy, and environmental efficiency in infrastructure and buildings, advising in standardisation of companies, and technological implementation of climate adaptation and mitigation methodologies. He is director and board member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), assessor for destinations, consultant for sustainable tourism certification standards, focusing on hotels, tour operators and destinations, and an approved GSTC trainer in the Southeastern Europe region. Since 2025, he has been European Climate Pact Ambassador and a European Urban Initiative – Innovative Actions expert, working to improve climate resilience across Europe.
