Guillermo Altares
Guillermo Altares is a journalist and the current editor-in-chief of the Culture section of El País. He has held various leadership positions at the aforementioned newspaper and was also a reporter for the International section, where he covered conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Lebanon. He is the author of the books Una lección olvidada. Viajes por la historia de Europa [A Forgotten Lesson: Journeys through European History] (Tusquets, 2018), which received the Madrid booksellers’ prize for best essay, and Los silencios de la libertad. Cómo Europa perdió y ganó su libertad [The Silences of Freedom: How Europe Lost and Won Its Freedom] (Tusquets, 2023), finalist for the 2nd annual Vanity Fair Award for non-fiction. He is a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
