Gilles Peress

Photographer

Born in 1946 in France, he lives and works in New York.

After studying at the Institut d’Études Politiques in Paris and the University of Vincennes, Gilles Peress began his career as a photographer in 1970. He has since worked in Bosnia, Rwanda and Northen Ireland, the results being included in Hate my Brother, a project focusing on civil war.

He worked in Iran in 1979 before moving on to such ventures as a reportage on the legacy of political crusader Simón Bolívar.

Gilles Peress became a Member of Magnum Photos in 1974.
