Experimental Funktion

Founded in 2011 in Barcelona, Experimental Funktion is an instrumental group with a floating formation that performs contemporary music, with particular emphasis on the search for new forms of instrumental and compositional organization. Its repertory draws on the tradition of US experimental music, the work of composers such as John Cage and, most particularly, Morton Feldman. The regular members of the group are violinist Vera Martínez Mehner, viola-player Jonathan Brown (both members of the prestigious Quartet Casals) and cellist Erica Wise. All share the particularity of combining expertise and prestige in classical performance with the intellectual and aesthetic boldness of wanting to explore new musical avenues.
