Ernesto Castro

Philosopher and writer

With a PhD in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid, he is a lecturer at the University of Zaragoza and writes about ethics, aesthetics and politics starting out from an analysis of phenomena of popular culture and social events. He made his debut as a writer with the essay Contra la posmodernidad: un libelo del 15M (Alpha Decay, 2011), while his book El trap: Filosofia millennial para la crisis en España (Errata Naturae, 2019) has made him one of Spain’s most widely recognised young philosophers, although he is also known for popularising philosophical content by means of his YouTube channel. In the academic domain, his main area of work is the latest trends in contemporary thought. On the basis of his PhD thesis on what he calls the “realist turn” in philosophy, he has written the essay Realismo poscontinental: Ontología y Epistemologia para el siglo XXI (Materia Oscura, 2020), and has also brought together his interests in the fields of aesthetics, cultural studies, and theory of the image in the book Ética, estética y política: ensayos (y errores) de un metaindignado (Arpa, 2020). Moreover, he has written as a critic for the magazine Quimera as well as pieces for other media outlets. His poems have been included in the anthology Tenían 20 años y estaban locos (La Bella Varsovia, 2011).
