Elías Torres

Elías Torres Tur (Eivissa, 1944) graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) in 1968 and has been teaching at ETSAB since 1969. In 1993, he obtained a PhD in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). He was Diocesan architect in Eivissa from 1973 to 1977, and has been a guest professor at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1977, 1981 and 1984, and at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1989, 1995 and 2001. In 1990 he was architect-in-residence at the Spanish Academy in Rome. In 2006 he was President of the Jury of the European Prize for Urban Public Space. In 2008 he was awarded the Ramon Llull Prize of the Balearic Islands Government and, in 2011, the Gold Medal of the Island of Eivissa for his life’s work. He has shared a professional studio with the architect José Antonio Martínez Lapeña since 1968.
