Dirk J. Vandewalle

Associate Professor of Government at Dartmouth College (USA), he has carried out extensive research into the political regimes of North Africa and the Middle East and also into the economic and institutional evolution of developing countries. Notable among his publications are Libya Since Independence: Oil and State-Building (Cornell University Press, 1998) and A History of Modern Libya (Cambridge University Press, 2006).
