David Wallace

Physicist and philosopher

He is currently Mellon Chair in Philosophy of Science at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh. He was formerly a professor at the University of Southern California and a lecturer at the University of Oxford. Although he has a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Oxford his interests took him immediately afterwards into the domain of the more philosophical questions raised by physics. In this area he is internationally known for his description and defence of the many-worlds interpretation and multiverse theories of quantum physics, although his research has also embraced many other areas including the conceptual and philosophical problems of statistical physics and general relativity. He has recently published an introduction to the philosophy of physics (Philosophy of Physics: A Very Short Introduction; Oxford University Press) and is also author of The Emergent Multiverse (Oxford University Press), an essential work for understanding the multiverse interpretation of quantum mechanics.
