Daniel Innerarity

Daniel Innerarity (Bilbao, 1959) is Professor of Social and Political Philosophy at the University of Zaragoza and director of the Institute for Democratic Governance. He has written extensively about cultural aspects of developed societies and present-day politics with particular attention to the concept of democracy and its functioning. Notable among his books are La transformación de la política (The Transformation of Politics – Península 2002), winner of the Third Miguel de Unamuno Essay Prize and the 2003 National prize for Literature, and La sociedad invisible (S.L.U Espasa Libros), which received the 2004 Espasa Prize for the Essay. In recent years his work has been concerned with the social and political uncertainties of the twenty-first century, as reflected in La política en tiempos de indignación (Politics in Times of Indignation – Galaxia Gutenberg, 2015), a theme which he has continued to develop in his most recent book Política para perplejos (Politics for the Perplexed – Galaxia Gutenberg, 2018). He is a regular contributor to the dailies El País and El Correo/Diario Vasco, and the journal Claves de razón práctica.
