Bruce Gilden

Born in 1946 in Brooklyn. He lives and works in New York.

Basically self-taught, Bruce Gilden at one point took evening classes at the New York School for Visual Arts. His first project led him to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras. In 1992 he published Facing New York, a study of life in the city. In Go, published in 2000, he explored the dark side of Japanese life: Yakuzas, the homeless and biker groups.

Beautiful Catastrophe, his most recent book appeared in 2005.

Bruce Gilden became a Member of Magnum Photos in 2002.
