Director of the Department of Geography and professor of Human Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he is a geographer and economist. His research work is concerned with geography and economics and focuses on the regulation and planning of rural areas, public transport models in Catalonia and landscape analysis. He is director of the Applied Geography Group of the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia and is working on R+D with the Ministry of Science and Technology. He is on the board of a number or organisms, for example the Centre for Demographic Studies, the Barcelona Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies and the Institute of Science and Environmental Technology. Among his published works is the co-authored book Geografia rural (Rural Geography – Síntesis, 2010).
