Andreas Kalyvas

Andreas Kalyvas is Associate Professor of Political Science at The New School for Social Research and at the Eugene Lang College for Liberal Arts in New York. He is spending this academic year in Barcelona, working with the “Trajectòries de la modernitat” (Trajectories of Modernity) research group at the University of Barcelona. His main research interests are democratic theory and the history of political ideas, in particular the relationship between democracy and constitutionalism. He has recently published the books Democracy and the Politics of the Extraordinary: Max Weber, Carl Schmitt, Hannah Arendt (Cambridge, 2008) and Liberal Beginnings: Making a Republic for the Moderns (Cambridge, 2008, with Ira Katznelson as co-author).
