Ali Mazrui
(1933 - 2014) Director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies of the University of Binghamton-State University of New York.
He was president of the African Studies Association in the USA, and vice-president of the International Political Science Association and of the International Congress of African Studies as well as director of the University of Michigan's Center for Afroamerican and African Studies. He worked as advisor to the World Bank and to the UN Commission on Transnational Corporations, and formed part of the managing team of the American Islamic Council. He directed the University of Georgetown's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and was a member of the Institute of Governance and Social Research of Jos (Nigeria). His research focused on international political culture and very especially, on African and Islamic culture.
