Agustín Ortiz Herrera

Artist

The art of Agustín Ortiz Herrera (Barcelona, 1970) combines moving images, installations, photography, performance and research. His recent projects conjure a discursive attitude towards scientific theory and invite a more critical look at the techno-scientific culture of the West.

Agustín graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1998 and in Cinematographic Production from New York (2003). After a period working as a scriptwriter, he returned to his artistic roots in 2016 with a Master’s in Fine Arts from the Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Highlights among his most recent exhibitions include: Fungi Fantasi and their friends Crazy Bacteria, The Green Parrot, Barcelona (2021), Vanitas #, Centre d'Art Maristany, Sant Cugat del Vallès (2021), Artificialia WunderChappel, Loop Barcelona (2020), Oblivion at K.R.O.P.P., Uppsala Konsert & Kongress, Uppsala (2019), Potenciación a largo plazo at El umbral de primavera, Madrid (2018), They Talk in Centrifugue, Konsthall C, Stockholm (2016), Om jag var där, Köttinspektionen, Uppsala (2016).

Agustín is currently an artist-in-residence at the centre for art research and production, Hangar. He was awarded the Barcelona Producció La Capella Grant (2019/2020) in the artistic research category and more recently was the recipient of the Ecotons from La Escocesa research grant in collaboration with the centre for research on Ecology and Forestry Applications (CREAF) for his project Future Forest.
