Adania Shibli
She is a writer and holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of East London, with a thesis on visual terror. As a writer, she has written novels, essays and short stories, making her one of the most important names in Arabic literature. Her work explores themes such as memory, the power of language and the violence of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and among them are the novels Touch (Clockroot Books, 2010) and We Are Equally Far from Love (Clockroot Books, 2013), both of them recognized with the Qattan Young Writer's Award; and Minor detail (Fitzcarraldo Editions, 2020; originally published in 2017), longlisted for the International Booker Prize and finalist for the National Book Award. In the field of essays, he has edited and coordinated publications such as A Journey of Ideas Across: In Dialog with Edward Said (HKW, 2014) or Dispositions (Qattan, 2012). As an academic she has also undertaken research and teaching stays at the universities of Nottingham and Birzeit in Ramallah.
