Adam Zagajewski

Poet, novelist and essayist.

Lwów, June 21st 1945- Krakóv, March 21st 2021

He was a graduate of the Jagellonian University in Cracow. In 1982 he established his residence in Paris, Although later he returned to Poland where he spent his last years.

He was one of the most outstanding Polish poets. His work has been translated into different languages and has earned, among other distinctions, a Guggenheim grant and the French Prix de la Liberté award. He is the author of collections of poems such as Ziemia ognista (1994) and Pragnienie (2000), as well as of the essays Another Beauty (1998) and A Defense of Ardor (2002).

He also taught creative writing classes at the University of Houston.
