Yvonne Rainer. «Privilege» by Eulàlia Iglesias

February 2022

Journalist and critic Eulàlia Iglesias presents Privilege by Yvonne Rainer. The film reflects on the fact that, for women, reaching the menopause means crossing a border and leaving the very restricted territory of privilege. It's an experimental documentary that combines the traditional interview format with a series of fictionalised scenes. In this way, the work of Yvonne Rainer, a choreographer and dancer by training, is in keeping with other filmmakers of the time who were already engaged in feminist film practices, such as Lizzie Borden and Barbara Hammer. Privilege is undoubtedly one of the foremost works of the feminist film movements of the 1980s and 1990s.
