In times of feminist protests, the image of the fragile, toxic woman so typical of the nineteenth century with its femmes fatales is still with us. Taking as our starting point Billie Eilish and her exhibition of alienated, depressed gestures, we trace the story of this strange association between femininity and fragility, as malicious as it is subverted by female rock musicians and mascara-wreathed models.
