Interview with Teju Cole: Filming the Raval

Writer and photographer

Writer, photographer and art historian. Throughout his career he has combined literature with photography, art criticism and exhibition curatorship. He grew up in Nigeria and in 1992 settled in the United States. He debuted in 2007 with his novella Every Day is for the Thief, which was followed by Open City, his first acclaimed novel, winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award, the New York City Book Award for Fiction, and the Rosenthal Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His photographic work has been exhibited in several countries and he has collaborated with media such as The New York TimesThe New Yorker, Granta and Brick. He currently teaches Creative Writing at Harvard, and reflects on the intersections between the history of photography, tourism and the fragility of the landscape.
