The dream of release

Cycle of films to coincide with the exhibition Harem fantasies and the new scheherazades.

 

Six women film directors, from Iran and Tunisia, use their films to focus on such fundamental issues as the oppression of women within the family, relations between men and women in Muslim society, living conditions in present-day Teheran, and how freedom and justice are still very much conditioned by radical conservatism.

Documentaries by Sou Abadi and Kim Longinotto & Ziba Mir-Hosseini open our eyes to reality: the first shows us the lives of a man and a woman under the Islamic republic and the second offers us a front-row seat in an Iranian family law court.
