The city of the future: utopias and dystopias

This course offers a historical journey through utopic and dystopic literature and film, exploring the urban scenarios imagined between the late 19^th century and the first half of the 20^th. While the history of architecture clearly recognises the relation between utopia and the construction of urban space, dystopia is generally marginalised. Yet today dystopic works offer an essential tool for critique of the present and understanding of the contemporary city.
