Xcèntric 2022

Taller de cine sin cámara

Audiovisuals + Courses and workshops

In this workshop, given by members of the Crater Lab collective, we’ll be using various manual intervention techniques on 35 mm footage to make a film without filming, with the aim of stimulating an understanding of and sensibility to analogue cinema and its relationship with the visual arts.

There are three parts to the activity. In the first, we view and discuss works from the Xcèntric Archive, focusing on the various techniques of film-making without a camera. We will also look at various theoretical concepts that help us to understand the basics of the cinematographic device.

In the second part, each participant will work on a fragment of celluloid (found footage and/or 35 mm transparent film), using the various techniques learned, and different materials and tools: paint, markers, hole punches, awl or punch, bleach, etc.

Finally, using a splicer, all the fragments generated will be joined together to create a collective film, which we’ll view on a Moviola. The workshop will end with a viewing and commentary of the work of each participant and the resulting collective film.

This workshop is aimed at anyone interested in analogue cinema and the visual arts; no prior knowledge is needed.
